School Nanotechnology Initiative
The Nano Science and Technology Consortium (NSTC) is a non-governmental platform that is working actively in the area of Nanotechnology consultancy, training, dissemination of information and technology transfer. NSTC has over 250 corporate and institutional members. NSTC publishes India’s first Nanotechnology journal entitled ‘NanoTrends – A Journal of Nanotechnology and Its Applications’. NSTC has international MOU’s with renowned nanotechnology bodies in Australia, Mexico & Korea. The awareness of Nanotechnology in India is increasing, and various universities and institutions have begun introducing Nanotechnology as a subject at various levels. Notable among these are, UP Technical University, Uttarakhand Technical University, Rajasthan Technical University, Panjab Technical University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University Chhattisgarh (Swami Vivekanand) Technical University and Delhi Technical University and many more.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also expressed the desire to introduce Nanotechnology as a subject at the school level. Visualizing it’s high time, and in the light of above, NSTC has taken a unique initiative (School Nanotechnology Initiative) to foster Nanotechnology, with special stress to school education (i.e. CBSE 10th -12th Standards). It’s imperative that such an exceptional, futuristic project cannot be put on the practical platform without the association of luminary from the school fraternity like you. We believe your directions and valuable guidance will be of immense assistance to us in meeting this high value objective.NSTC has been active in the area of spreading awareness in Nanotechnology through innovative delivery methodologies in training programs of various levels. Our activities are also being carried out in collaboration with the Vigyan Prasar (under Deptt. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India) and the National Small Industry Corporation (a Govt. of India enterprise). In our effort to increase awareness of nanotechnology at the school level, we are working with the Vigyan Prasar to organize chat shows and seminars for school students, so that they may get an insight into the future of this technology and its relevance to them.
To apprise you, the aforesaid initiative envisages to encompass facets such as - i) Creation of timely and relevant content in the shape of books, CDs, online e- material- that is interesting, prepared with a focused approach and is rich from theoretical and practical (experimental) point of view. ii) Evolving of appropriate course delivery methodology iii) Imparting appropriate training to science teachers iv) Updating of the course material v) Integrating theoretical ideas/ lessons with practical examples- nanotech labs/ gallery concepts.
In the light of above, NSTC is in the process of forming an ‘Academic Advisory board - School Nanotechnology Initiative’, consisting of school principals and various academic luminaries. Needless to say that, your indispensible association/ participation in this pioneering effort of NSTC will go a long way to foster/ impart the timely education and knowledge of this cutting edge domain of science the ‘Nanotechnology’.
We request your consent to being a part of this academic advisory board, and also invite your valuable inputs on the topics mentioned above. As part of this effort, we are also offering free NSTC institutional membership to your school.
We also request you to please send us your brief professional profile with a colored passport size photograph. We plan to display this on the web pages devoted to the ‘Academic Advisory Board- School Nanotechnology Initiative’ on our website.
